Dear guests & friends, for a start I wish you the happiest New Year 2019. I wish you everything you wish for yourself, but also I wish for us all more sunny days during Baška Voda summer 2019, and I want summer to last longer (because I only live for summer). 🙂 I hope you had a good rest and that you are ready for new life challenges and summer holiday planning. Even though the winter is just starting to […]
This is a post about her –> famous BURA – drama queen in Baška Voda and all Dalmatia, queen of winter and fear. Why fear you ask? Well because she scares everybody,..at the moment it starts people run to their homes, hiding and waiting until it ends. This strong wind is like a woman; passionate and unpredictable. You can never tell what will be “her” reaction and “her” reflection on the environment. It might seem silly to a foreigner, but many Dalmatians […]
Hello November, please be nothing but amazing! Well, now I can not share photos from summer in November because my parents came back to Zagreb city, and there is nobody to take ‘summer’ photos any more….haha. But if you follow our FB page you can now enjoy in old vintage photos of Baška Voda that I posted. If you thought that’s all from photos…hm just wait, more to come soon! There is less than 50 days until Christmas, did you […]
I was thinking what to write about, and here it is a short guide of things to see and do in Baska Voda.
When you finally come to this little town on Makarska Riviera coast, you have plenty things to see. For start let me teach you how to pronounce properly the city name, it is Baska (pronounced Bashka) Voda – a small village and port only 9 km north of Makarska and just south of Brela. It’s an easy day trip from Split but it’s also a wonderful holiday destination in its own.
It was once known as humble fishing village, and now tourists come because of pebble beaches, pine woods and amazing wonderful sunset walks along the sea. (my favorite ‘to do list‘)
As you can assume no one usually comes here for museums, galleries and churches; it’s mostly family holiday place. Most people want to hang out on the beach drinking cocktails and just ‘chilling’, but if you are adventure seeker you can also do some pleasant hikes mostly to nearby Biokovo Mountain. Visit the nearby villages of Bast and Topići, known for their traditional cousine (cheese, prosciutto, bread, and ‘”peka” –> google that). Take an easy walk to Promajna and the little fishermen’s village of Bratus.
But if you really want to explore some of the hidden bays, my advice to you is to try –> KAYAKING. I discover that three years ago and it is really great sport if you want to stay active and do some environmental exploring. And you really do have a lot of bays to explore…(here is one photo of me and my boy exploring the bay around Brela stone).
Worried about renting a kayak? No worries, in Baška Voda you can rent a kayak on almost every beach and some of the local agencies even offer kayaking tours to Brela and back.
Before you take this water adventure make sure you bring a sunblock, a hat, bottle of water, some fruit … and a good camera to capture all this amazing photos.
Book your accommodation on time and start planning your adventure!!! 🙂
Let’s talk about what to do while my parents are still enjoying last sunny days in Baška Voda sending me all these photos that I post on FB page, for which I now you must be watching and counting your days until your next holiday.
So if you have that grief for summer you better start planning your next one on time just to make sure you have accommodation covered. Especially if you are coming with little children it is important to book your accommodation to make sure you can travel with no worries and problems like: ‘will I find an apartment or good room next to the beach for a cheap price’ in July/August? – I don’t think you will, cause most of the hosts are fully booked months before summer season. (You will only find accommodation around 300 meters from the beach, which means a lot of walking). –> Start making plans on time.
You are probably thinking – why I am rushing so fast with the booking already, it is only October?
Well, because every year in July/August my mailbox is full of apartment queries. I know that most of you are planning a holiday in the last minute because of the crazy jobs you have and not knowing your holiday period –
I understand all that. But I am sure you could plan yourself a little bit better. At least just try and you will see how easier you will feel when you have all planned and booked on time.
And for now enjoy the photos from summer in October that my parents have sent me today. :*
As you all know summer is officially over (not for my dad, he is still fishing – thank God for that!), and all the apartment owners are on to some holiday to recover from the summer rush. You must know that Dalmatian people love to eat good food, so this is good opportunity to share with you that from last week October 5th – 14th 2018 is RESTAURANT WEEK in Croatia, that includes Baška Voda as well (LOL).
So I hope you are enjoying good food somewhere with your loved ones. (I know I am). Here are some dalmatian specialties that you must try next time you come. Send us a photo of your favorite dalmatian food :)) DOBAR TEK, Guten appetit, Dobrou chuť, Dobry apetyt, …
